Whitetail Deer Score Calculator
Boone & Crockett-style typical and non-typical scoring, following the published official method.
How this works
Net score = gross score − symmetry deductions (differences between matching left/right measurements)
This follows the official Boone & Crockett scoring pattern used for typical whitetail: total up beam lengths, every point length, the circumference measurements taken at four points on each antler, and the inside spread, then subtract deductions for any difference between the matching left and right measurements — symmetry is rewarded, asymmetry is penalized.
Typical vs. non-typical
Points that don't match the typical branching pattern (kickers, drop tines, extra points) count toward the non-typical score as pure addition rather than being penalized, while the typical score continues to deduct for asymmetry. A rack with significant non-typical points will usually score higher on the non-typical side than the typical side — score it both ways and enter whichever category fits.
Frequently asked questions
What score counts as a Boone & Crockett record-book entry?
The published minimum for typical whitetail is 170 (net) after the required 60-day drying period and an official measurement — most deer hunters describe a much wider range of good deer informally as "Boone and Crockett bucks" without meeting that actual threshold.
Why is my green (fresh) score different from an official score?
Antlers shrink slightly as they dry, so a fresh, green score typically reads a bit higher than the eventual official score taken after the required 60-day drying period.
Should I score my deer as typical or non-typical?
Score it both ways and enter whichever category the deer actually fits and scores best in — a rack with significant abnormal points will often score higher under the non-typical category, since those points count as pure additions there.
