Taxidermy Cost Estimator
Rough, widely cited national price ranges by mount type. Get local quotes — prices vary a lot by region and taxidermist.
How this works
These ranges reflect widely cited industry figures for the major mount categories: a simple European skull mount at the low end, a standard shoulder mount for deer-sized game in the middle, and full-body mounts — which require far more material, form work, and time — at the high end, especially for larger animals.
What drives the price within each range
Within any category, price is driven by the taxidermist's skill and reputation, regional cost of living, how much habitat and base work is included, and current turnaround-time demand. Getting two or three local quotes before committing is the only reliable way to know your actual cost.
Frequently asked questions
Why is there such a wide price range for the same mount type?
Price within a category is driven mainly by the taxidermist's skill and reputation, regional cost of living, how much base and habitat work is included, and current turnaround-time demand — all of which vary a lot by taxidermist.
Should I get more than one quote?
Yes — these are national reference ranges, not a quote. Getting two or three local quotes before committing is the only reliable way to know your actual cost.
Why does a full-body mount cost so much more than a shoulder mount?
A full-body mount requires far more material, form work, and time than a shoulder mount, which is reflected in the much higher end of the published price range, especially for larger animals.
