MOA / Mil Calculator
Convert between MOA, mils, inches, and scope clicks at any range.
How this works
1 MOA ≈ 1.047 in at 100 yd · 1 mil = 3.6 in at 100 yd
Both MOA (minute of angle) and mils (milliradians) are angular units — the further out the target, the more inches that same angle covers. A mil is a larger angle than a MOA, which is why 1 mil covers roughly 3.6 inches at 100 yards versus about 1.05 inches for 1 MOA.
Matching your clicks to your reticle
Scopes are built around one system or the other — MOA turrets with a MOA reticle, or mil turrets with a mil reticle (mil-dot or Christmas-tree style). Mixing systems means doing this conversion in your head under time pressure, which is exactly what this calculator is for: dial in a correction from a spotter's call, or convert a reticle holdover into turret clicks.
Frequently asked questions
Is 1 MOA really 1 inch at 100 yards?
Not exactly — true MOA is 1.047 inches at 100 yards. "1 inch at 100 yards" is a rounded approximation some shooters use casually, sometimes called shooter's MOA, and this calculator uses the true value for accuracy at longer range.
How do I know if my scope is MOA or mil?
Check your scope's spec sheet or the markings on the turret caps — most say "MOA" or "MIL" directly. If your reticle and turrets don't match units, this calculator can convert between them so you're not doing the math by hand.
Why does the correction change with range?
MOA and mils are angular units, so the same angular adjustment covers more inches the farther out you go — a 1 MOA correction is about 1 inch at 100 yards but roughly 3 inches at 300 yards. That's why range is one of the required inputs.
